FULL MOON NIGHT SWIM…

…AND CAMPING WEEKEND

SAT 21 SEPT

Sea Swim Cornwall have teamed up with Cornish Tipi Holidays to offer an unforgettable evening (or weekend) of night swimming under a full moon and the stars…and lots of additional options. We’ve selected a near full moon (a couple of days after the Harvest Moon / 88% light), that allows for swimming at a reasonable time of the evening. Participants can take in a stunning 40-45 minute supervised night swim under the stars, before grabbing a bite to eat at the sites cafe and a hot drink (and a good old ‘social’) around the campfire…or something stronger! *There are a few requirements for the night swim listed at the bottom of this page. It is important that you read them before booking.

Available options :

  • Book the Full Moon swim as a single ‘event’ (dinner & drinks available on-site post-swim), book the Full Moon swim, refreshments and camp overnight (tipis, tent pitches and campervan spots available)

  • Book a Port Gaverne sea swim & Full Moon swim on Sat or book both and camp for 1-2 nights

  • Book a number of nights and enjoy a longer stay

  • Get in touch with our friends over at Cornish Rock Tors and add some adventure to your stay (kayaking, SUP, coasteering…).

More about the campsite :

The site is unique. A woodland valley folded around a clear, spring-fed lake created from the old Tregildrans Quarry. Tipis and tent pitches are dotted about this secret 20 acres clothed in ferns and bluebells, oak and meadowsweet. Left in peace for many years there's been no modern chemicals & poisons on the land, meaning we've got bluebells & dormice, Red Admirals & shy woodland Jays for you to spot.

It’s a place a world apart from the rush and clutter of the modern holiday experience, with an atmosphere that makes you forget the world outside, and just lounge, ramble, or potter about in a boat. Read more - CLICK HERE

NIGHT SWIM REQUIREMENTS

Swimmers need a brightly coloured swimming cap or colourful bobble hat (for any head-up swimmers). You won’t be able to swim in a dark or black swimming cap. Swimmers are required to wear a brightly coloured tow float. No tow float, no entry. We recommend the enviro-friendly range from Ulu tow floats. You'll also need to place a torch in the tow float, with fresh batteries. There’s no way of knowing how ‘fresh’ the batteries are. We’ll be satisfied provided the torch works before/during entry.

Each swimmer has to arrive at a designated time and attend registration. If you arrive late you may not be permitted to swim. A short safety briefing will be conducted at registration. Swimmers will be told where they can swim, will be informed of the safety procedures, of the entry/exit point, first aid point and any additional information they’ll need to know. Swimmers will be counted in and out of the water, at the designated entry point. On exit, swimmers will be ticked off the register. If a swimmer exits the water at any stage, they will not be permitted to re-enter the water.

Swimmers have up to 45-50 minutes. They’ll be informed where they’re permitted to swim and where they’re not permitted to swim. The water safety team will be spaced out, to cover the entire swimming area. They’ll be on rescue boards and have head torches and additional back-up torches.

SUSTAINABILITY / ENVIRO-IMPACT

Whilst glow sticks do add to the fun and atmosphere of a swim like this, they're also single use plastic and create chemical waste. We would discourage the use of glow sticks and similar single use items at this swim. You're more than welcome to bring more environmental friendly alternatives.
