Big River 10k Day Big River 10k Day - June 20 2020. Approx start time 2.30pm

The Big River 10k Day is specifically designed for the intermediate open water swimmer. Unlike the Magical Mystery Tour event it’s slanted slightly more towards the intermediate competitive swimmer. We have swimming criteria for the swim as follows - each swimmer needs to be able to swim 2km in at least 40-45 minutes, either in the pool or open water. This is primarily for safety reasons and to ensure that the field doesn’t become to spread. Although this is a very quiet stretch of water in terms of boat traffic you do get the odd power or sailing boat near the shore, so we also insist on tow float usage.

Join us for an epic clear water swim with the tide in the River Fal Estuary from St Mawes to St. Just in Roseland, linking two historic ports .

The event involves back to back 5K swims in one of the most beautiful locations you will ever swim. Starting from Tavern Beach we will swim around the cannons on Castle Point, following the coast and tide to St. Just Pool, finishing the first 5km leg in front of stunning palm trees and a 12th century church. Here we will have a refuel and then, as the tide turns, we will race home to St. Mawes completing an awesome 10K Big River Day.

The Big River Day is designed with the intermediate open water swimmer in mind. You’ll swim two 5km stretches of water, with the assistance of a leisurely tide. As the tide plays a part in the swim you will have to make the cut-offs.

We will have male and female awards for the 1st to complete the initial 5K leg and again 1st across the line for the 10K finish.

If you need a challenge, enjoy open water swimming in beautiful surroundings and want to have a go at Cornwall’s first Big River Day Tom and Jo will see you In June 2020.

*As this is the first year we’ve run this event we’ll insist that unless you’ve swum a previous 10km event without a wetsuit that you wear one.
